7-Eleven is making major investments to modernize its stores and improve the shopper experience. For decades, the brand has been known for speed, access, and convenience. But the modern convenience store shopper is changing, and customers are looking for better food options, cleaner stores, easier shopping, and a more engaging in-store experience
In response 7-Eleven is rethinking several parts of its store model, including new store formats, remodels, foodservice options, and more.
1. New, larger, more food-forward stores
One of the biggest shifts is 7-Eleven’s move toward larger, more food-focused locations.
Parent company Seven & i Holdings has announced plans to open approximately 1,300 new large-format stores in North America by 2030. These stores are designed to support a more modern convenience experience, with greater emphasis on fresh food, beverages, in-store dining, and a broader merchandise mix.
The new format also gives a clearer picture of what 7-Eleven means by a more modern convenience experience. In Allen, Texas, one of the company’s new standard stores is approximately 4,800 square feet, compared with about 2,900 square feet for a traditional 7-Eleven.
Inside the store, foodservice plays a much larger role. The location includes a Laredo Taco restaurant, expanded coffee and cold beverage options, grab-and-go fresh food, roller grill items, pizza, fried chicken, wings, and other hot food options. The store also includes seating, self-checkout kiosks, and bold signage that helps customers quickly identify key areas.
Eleven’s new format is not simply bigger, it is designed to make the store easier to navigate, more food-focused, and more engaging for customers.

2. Remodeling the existing store base
In addition to building new stores, 7-Eleven is also investing in its current locations.
The company has announced plans to remodel 7,000 of its existing stores in North America by 2030. These remodels are expected to bring more stores in line with the brand’s updated format, including improved layouts, modernized interiors, expanded food and beverage capabilities, and stronger merchandising.
Emphasizing the importance of improving customer experience, the company stated: “Our North Star unites us around elevating customer experience, with a shared commitment to delivering a consistent, exceptional experience — no matter where or how customers engage with us.”
3. Technology that supports convenience
7-Eleven is also investing in technology to make the shopping experience faster, easier, and more responsive.
This includes digital ordering, delivery through 7NOW, loyalty programs, customer feedback systems, and in-store technologies that help the company better understand shopper behavior. Some of these tools are designed to improve convenience outside the store, while others help improve execution inside the store.
4. Better merchandising and visibility
A larger, more food-forward store needs to be easy to navigate. For 7-Eleven, shelf illumination fits naturally within the larger push toward modern store design, stronger merchandising, and improved customer experience.
Fresh food needs to look appealing. Private brand products need to stand out. High-value categories need to catch the customer’s attention. And, impulse items need to be visible at the moments when customers are most likely to buy.
As the company continues to remodel stores and build new concepts, Lighting for Impact’s shelf lighting is an integral part of how the store communicates quality, convenience, and value.
